A Blacksburg Maternity Session - Taylor & Fredy
Taylor has been my best friend since 2nd grade, and it’s so special to see her in this stage of life. She looked gorgeous in her long, emerald green dress and they chose maternity shoot locations that matched their personal style seamlessly.
The Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg is full of large windows which makes for a classy modern feel with so much dreamy, natural lighting. We continued their maternity photos at The Virginia Tech campus Duckpond among the weeping willow trees, and we closed out the session at the Hahn Botanical Gardens- with a outfit change into something a little more casual, but still elegant for memorable photos to look back on for years to come!
Taylor & Fredy really are a textbook example of how to dress for your maternity photos. These maternity session wardrobe choices are classic, timeless, and wise.
What To Wear For Great Maternity Portraits
Comfort: Long, flowy dresses for the mom-to-be are comfortable, ultra feminine, and photograph amazingly - and can add interest in movement, whimsy, elegance, and a bit of romance.
Color: Neutrals or solids are a good choice for maternity photos as patterns can sometimes be distracting. Lighter colors such as whites, off-whites, beige, light pinks, or pastels will highlight the precious baby bump. A dramatic contrast of a black, navy, deep red, or dark green dress will provide a great silhouette of the bump - especially in a studio or indoor setting. In outdoors settings, sometimes a bright yellow or white will help create this same contrast and add a fun pop of color.
Consider The Setting: I loved how this couple dressed up for the stately feel of the Arts Center and dressed a little more comfortable for some outdoor maternity portraits. Taking into account the weather, temperature, and feel of the location will make for great maternity photos!
